About Us

This website together with its group of SH1 Business Directories is a unique concept seldom seen on the internet today.

SH1 Business Directories www.sh1directory.co.nz and NZ Travellers Guide www.travellersguide.co.nz are websites that are owned by Timaru Tourist Promotions Limited. Its development is the brainchild of a local Timaru businessman Ron E Bishop.

Ron is enthusiastic and passionate about promoting business and tourism in his home town Timaru. He believes the City has the potential to become a most popular tourist destination but it needs the local Timaru District Council to opens its doors and encourage development.

Several years ago Ron took it upon himself to launch a public appeal to build a 5 star hotel and conference centre on the Hydro Grand Hotel site on the Timaru Bay Hill overlooking Caroline Bay The little money he raised by his own efforts was taken from him by the Timaru District Council and invested against his will to help the Timaru District council build the Aorangi Stadium now known as the ASB Events Centre.

Despite this major disappointment he has given numerous suggestions to the Timaru District Council about ways that Timaru could be promoted more effectively but unfortunately all his suggestions have fallen on deaf ears. Ron is a man that does not quit easily and he just looks for other ways to reach his goals.

Timaru people have said no to his ideas so now he is looking outside the boundary of Timaru to share his talents as a promoter of business and tourism in other towns.

Many years of trial and error have gone into building his website and Ron is now ready to take it with him on the road to show businesses from Bluff to North Cape and back along New Zealand’s SH1 State Highway One what can be done on his website to showcase New Zealand.

Keep this website handy and follow Ron’s Journey from one end of New Zealand to the other as he records each day's travel on his blog www.travellersguide.co.nz You can also look forward to the book that will be published at the end of his journey.

To find out more about how you can become part of this fast growing exciting website send an email to the man that created it Ron E Bishop ron@sh1directory.co.nz He would love to hear from you.
