Geraldine Celebrates 150 years in style

The small country town of Geraldine in South Canterbury recently celebrated its 150 years of history. Photo News decided it would be a good idea to take some photos of the town as it is today and display them on the Internet.

Day one started with the opening at the St Andrews Hall and getting up to the front to take photos was not an easy task even with my little camera. When I finally did get up the front I got told off by an official for trying to take a photo of the cake and my humiliation was enjoyed by the large crowd.

This hall had on display 750 historic photos which were chosen from a selection of 5500 photos which had been gifted to the museum by local people.

Our request to display some of the historical photos on this website was unfortunately declined. Photo News also took 174 photos of the vintage car and tractor museum as well as the Orari Gorge Station historical buildings and permission to display them on this website was also declined
