There is an old saying “if you don’t use it you’ll lose itâ€
Or what about this one. “its better to wear out than to rust outâ€
We all know that exercise keeps our bodies in shape and helps us live happier and longer lives.
Who better to set the example than the staff from the Timaru Hospital. The South Canterbury District Health Board was one of the major sponsors in this years Hadlow to Harbour Fun Run and to lead the way they entered a team of some 120 runners and walkers.
This was the one day in the year when medical people took off their labels of Mr, Doctor, Nurse, Surgeon, Board member and all their other titles and put on their shorts and became one of us with our nobly knees and pot bellies.
Don’t tell me what to do Doc, just show me.
I don’t know about you but this was the message that came through loud and clear to me as I took photos of these dedicated medical people enjoying the sunshine and fresh air.
To add incentive there were many prizes to be won. Best Turned out Sport or Social Team. Fancy Dress for best individual and best group. Best Team Effort plus Trust Power Vouchers and Air Safaris Grand Traverse tickets. The prizes helped boost numbers by some 25% over last year. There were 2 starting points this year 3 km and 10 km
The annual Hadlow to Harbour event was organised by a team of Rotarians from the Rotary North Club who were ably led by Charles Vincent with the assistance of Brent Birchfield of Port FM.

If you are thinking you are too old to exersise then think again, if others can do it then why can’t you?
