HOW TO THINK LIKE A WINNER

THINK TALK – Lesson 1
“The Power of Your Thoughts”

Welcome to Think Talk the only self development course written by a New Zealander that teaches people how to think like a winner. There are 7 lessons in this manual and this is lesson 1 of your personal development course on “How to Think like a Winner”
I have been encouraged by the response to this course. This tells me there is a huge need in the community from people like you who are open and willing to learn about personal growth skills.

Education
When you went to school you would have been taught what to think but were you ever taught how to think?  Did anyone ever teach you how your mind or your brain works?
Most of us scramble through life learning by trial and error but very few ever sit down and ask why do people act in a certain way and why do some succeed and others fail?
I don’t have any magical secrets in fact what I will be teaching you is something that you are already doing every day but are completely unaware of it.

First I will explain how you think then I will teach you how you can take control of your life by taking control of your thoughts. Keep an open mind and don’t prejudge until the end of all the lessons.
I am going to keep the lessons short because that way you will have less to think about during teach session and you will retain more in your long term memory.

Believe with your Heart

The Logo
When I decided I wanted to become a professional motivational coach I had the knowledge from over 500 books, tapes and seminars during my 30 years of study. All I had to do was put the lessons into practice and apply them in my own life. I did the practice then I went looking for an idea that I could use as a logo. I wanted a logo that would also explain how the mind works.

I hired a graphic artist and between us after several attempts the above graphic was born.
Each person looking at this graphic will read different things into it but here is the real message it conveys.
Take away the man in the middle and imagine yourself as being the one looking through the lifebuoy.
At the top of your head is the words Think Tank which represents your Conscious Mind
and over your heart is the words Belief Tank which represents you Subconscious Mind.
The communication link between your Think Tank and your Belief Tank is visualizations and affirmations.

Information comes into your Think Tank through your 6 senses, sound, sight, taste, smell, touch and spirit. It processes that information and sends it on down to your Belief Tank for approval.
Your Belief Tank will either reject it or retain it depending on what other information is already stored in your Belief Tank based on your past experiences.

Thinking like a Winner
Thinking like a winner is not just about winning gold medals, making lots of money or becoming a spirit filled good living individual. It’s about having a balance in all areas of your life and you can only ever do this by learning a whole new language. I call this language Think Talk and if you learn it and use it everyday you can design a whole new life for yourself.

Think Tank
This is your Conscious Mind and it does all your conscious thinking while you are awake. When you go to sleep it shuts down. In the last few years with the aid of some remarkable brain scanners neuroscience have discovered that the conscious mind is only responsible for 17% of your thinking.

Belief Tank
This is your Subconscious Mind and it is thinking all of the time. If it stops thinking then you are dead. It’s responsible for the other 83% of your thinking. Your Subconscious Mind thinks in every cell of your body and is responsible for every movement you make. Your Subconscious Mind takes its orders from your Conscious Mind and because it has no reasoning it cannot tell the difference between good or bad and right from wrong.

Affirmations
These are the words you say to yourself, words that are more commonly known as Self Talk. These words send instructions to your Belief Tank. Through repetition the instructions take hold in your Belief Tank and become known as your beliefs. Your Subconscious Mind will believe anything you keep telling it and will make your body act accordingly.

Visualisation
Your mind has an imagination and therefore converts words into images. Those images then bring about a change in your body. Let me give you an example.
Imagine taking a lemon from your fruit bowl. Put the lemon on a cutting board and cut it in half. Now squeeze the juice of the lemon into your mouth. Swirl the lemon juice around in your mouth and then put the whole lemon into your mouth and suck on it.
Question: How much saliva can you now feel in your mouth?
There was no lemon was there? It was all in your imagination yet your body reacted to my words.
The saliva that you experienced in your mouth from eating an imaginary lemon proves that your mind cannot tell the difference between a real and an imagined experience.
Knowing this opens up a whole new world of possibilities for you. We will talk more about images and visualisation in future lessons.

Putting it all Together
You think with your Head (think tank) and Believe with your Heart. (belief tank)
The communication link between your head and your heart is the words that you say to yourself (think talk)  Your words become instructions and form images in your mind (visualization) which your body then acts upon.

Here it is again in a nutshell

U R What U Think U R

U R What U Say  U R

U R What U Imagine U R

U R What U Believe U R

You can be whatever you want to be if you Think it, Say it, Imagine it and Believe it.  Once you believe it then it will be yours.

Negative Words
Every word you speak is either positive or negative. Your mind turns words into pictures and your feelings and body movements act upon those images in your mind. Some words cannot be turned into pictures, words such as Not, Won’t and Don’t.

For Golfers: Lets say you are playing golf and you say to yourself I won’t go out of bounds. You hit the ball and it goes out of bounds. That is because the word won’t did not register and the picture in your mind was an image of the ball going out of bounds.
Your positive think talk when playing golf should always be: I am going straight down the middle of the fairway.
For Parents: Johnny don’t spill your milk. What does Johnny do he drops the glass and spills the milk all because you put a picture in his mind of him spilling the milk  Once again the word don’t did not register in Johnny’s mind.
Your positive think talk for Johnny should always be: Hold your glass steady Johnny that’s a good boy.

Your Attitude: Someone says to you, how are you today. You answer Not Bad. Your mind cannot turn the word Not into a picture so the image of the word bad makes you feel Bad.
The positive greeting response should always be either, I’m Great, Fantastic or Terrific.

Mental Exercise No 1
If you want to really start feeling good about yourself and have better health and enjoy living then this exercise will not only change your life for the better but also have a dramatic effect on others around you.
It’s very simple and easy to learn but it does take discipline for at least 30 days which is about the time it takes to change a habit.

Think Talk for Winners: Every time someone asks you how you are today you must answer with either of the following words.
GREAT, FANTASTIC or TERRIFIC. I don’t care if you are lying on your death bed, you have nothing to lose but everything to gain by saying you feel great fantastic or terrific.
The key to this exercise is that you don’t have to believe the words you say but the more often you say them the quicker you will start to believe them and your body will respond to the instructions.

Starting tomorrow morning I want you to jump out of bed and say these words out loud so that everyone in the house can hear you.
I feel GREAT, I feel FANTASTIC, I feel TERRIFIC. This is going to be a GREAT day, FANTASTIC things are going to happen to me today.
