It was a wonderful fine summer’s morning in Timaru. The birds were singing and I felt grateful that God had given me another day of life in such a wonderful part of the world.
I was feeling great until I opened up the Timaru Herald and read
the headline. Petition fails to sway council.
The Mayor of Timaru and her elected group of Councilors chose to ignore any suggestions from the ratepayers that they look at an alternative route to the proposed four lane highway on Evans Street .
Just below the article we see a photo of a Councilor who recently chose to move his accommodation away from Evans Street to safer ground. The headline to this article reads.
Council talks over pay parity.
It seems the councilors have all given themselves yet another pay rise. What amuses me about this story is that we as ratepayers have to pay for the Councilors time while they sit around the table arguing about who should gets the biggest pay packet.
Over the page the headline reads.
Aquatic Centre still on target.
Another luxury item in the pipeline waiting for a plaque. It seems a third set of swimming baths in Timaru is far more important than building new roads.
Just when I am wondering if I am really living in a town that is run by group of dictators and bullies I get a letter in the mail from the Police department in Wellington.
They write to inform me that a conscientious young Timaru police officer thought it would be good use of her time to send me a traffic ticket for exceeding the speed limit by just 1 kilometre an hour.
They asked me to send them some money within 28 days
and if I didn’t they would take my car off me and sell it.
Despite all this bad news I’m not going to let any civil servant, politician or bureaucrat ruin my day. If they choose to go about their work drunk with power and upsetting peoples lives then they have the problem not me. These dictators and bullies have to learn that people power in numbers is far more powerful then they will ever be.
In my next letter I am going to write about how we can deal with these bullies let them know that they are working for us and not the other way round.
