In the Timaru Herald the Mayor of Timaru Janie Annear in her memo to her ratepayers was thanking all the Community Volunteers for the wonderfull work they do for the community without any pay.
In the next paragraph the Mayor announces that she and selected members of her team are going to Japan on Wednesday to do some wheeling and dealing with the Japanese.
All her expenses and of others will be met by the Timaru ratepayers.
The ratepayers of Timaru also includes those wonderfull community volunteers she was praising in the same memo.
I phoned councillor Terry Kennedy to see who approved of the overseas expenditure and he told me the Mayor did not have to get this type of expenditure approved by the Council.
I feel sorry for the people of Timaru that they are being led by such a selfish greedy bunch of people that have an open cheque book and are not accountable to anyone.
