I have been concerned for some time that that much of the important political news is not being reported. It’s either because the councillors are all gaged and are to afraid to step out of line or the local daily newspaper is acting under higher orders.
The Timaru directory in the future will be taking a much keener interest in local politics and will be asking the hard questions and recording the truth.
Timaru District Council turns its back on Local Debt Collection Agency
It has been reported in the Timaru Herald that the Timaru District Council is owed $1.2 million in arrears by Timaru Ratepayers.
To help it recover the rate arears the TDC are using a Christchurch based debt collection company Receivables Management NZ Limited. The collection company was formed in June 2005 after the original Australian company went into liquidation.
Local Service
Debtor Communications is the only debt collection company with an office in Timaru
They have been trading as a local debt collection agency in Timaru for over 15 years
Many local debtors come to their office in Woollcombe Street known as The Payment Centre to pay their bills. They also have field agents throughout New Zealand who can make personal visits on debtors if needed.
Despite the excellent debt collection service that can be provided locally the Timaru District Council chooses to turn its back on the local debt collection agency and refuses to have any association with them.
South Canterbury Charities Limited not a Charitable trust
The South Canterbury Charities Ltd is a charitable trust that exists for the purpose of raising funds for the community.
The above words appear on the home page of this companies website.
A limited liability company can never be a charitable trust it’s either one or the other and there is no charitable trust called South Canterbury Charities registered with the companies office. All the directors of South Canterbury Charities Ltd are equal shareholders in the private company.
The company made a donation of $100,000 to the Timaru District Council to be used for a proposed aquatic centre that is still waiting full approval by the council.
Where is the $100,000 from the Timaru gamblers sitting and who is earning the interest the money the TDC ratepayers or SCC shareholders.
The Directors of South Canterbury Charitable Limited are.
Quintin Hix, Lee King, Dave Jack, Ken Wills and Howard Smith
Each director holds equal shares. As a private company the directors only have to report to themselves.
The 3 hotels who fund them are Richard Pearse Taven, Old Bank Tavern and Crown Hotel Temuka.
South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce hand picks its Manager
The Aoraki Development Trust manages the affairs of the South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce and it recently appointed a new manager Timaru District Councilor Dave Jack.
Despite the fact that the S C Chamber of Commerce has over 450 members the position of Manager was not publicly advertised.
I wonder why?
