Oamaru Business Directory Now Online

Oamaru now has its own online business directory. The directory is an offshoot of the Timaru business directory produced by Timaru Tourist Promotions Limited. General Manager Ron Bishop reports, we have been working on the Timaru Business Directory for 2 years now fine tuning it and slowly establishing a loyal client base.

Telepehone Listings
The names of over 90% of Timaru businesses are now listed in the telephone section of the directory. All the clubs and organisations are listed but we have not listed their phone numbers until we can find sponsors.
We have secured 6 south island domain names ending in directory.co.nz. They include Christchurch, Ashburton, Timaru, Oamaru and Dunedin. Over time we plan to have all the business in these towns and cities listed online. Each town will have its own online directory with its own identy but with all the websites linked to each other.

Timaru History Book
The idea of tell us your story book came about when we attempted to write a book to help Timaru celebrate their 150 years. We approached the Timaru District Council for some assistance but yet again we were turned down. We experienced the same problem in Geraldine when we attempted to promote their 150 years. Over the last 3 years we have been recording history for South Canterbury through our photo news photographs and videos.
We have the biggest collection South Canterbury photographs and videos taken in 2006 the year of Timarus 150th and Phar Laps 80th birthdays
However because of the selfish negative attitudes of a few people all that history recorded will be lost and never be seen by the public.

Independance
We have always been proud of the fact that we have been independant and never made a living from ratepayers money like many others do.
We decided not to have anything more to do with the Timaru District Council and not to promote anything to do with promoting any of the towns in South Canterbury.
We are inviting everyday citizens to tell us their story and we will publish their stories online.

District Councils
We are getting far more interest from the public then we ever got from The Timaru District Council. We have not had many dealings with the Ashburton and Oamaru Councils but what we have had has been positive. From now on all our efforts will be going into helping businesess grow and to providing a service to the public.
