Local Businesses in Ashburton Timaru and Oamaru Join Forces Online

It all started when I saw a need for the City of Timaru to promote itself more and the need to encourage more travellers to discover the provincial country and towns along state highway one between Christchurch and Dunedin.
To do this we formed a company and called it Timaru Tourist Promotions Limited.
We then built a website called Timaru Directory. www.timarudirectory.co.nz. 
The first couple of years we spent promoting Timaru using our own recourses without any support from the local Council.
It was thankless work so last year we moved away from promoting local Timaru events and turned our website into an online business telephone book. This means we can now call on local business people with a product that will not only to help promote their business but also their town.

Unique Concept
We secured 5 domain names for South Island towns all ending in directory.co.nz
From these we intend to build 5 business directories in Christchurch, Ashburton, Timaru, Oamaru and Dunedin. All these towns are situated along State Highway One so they all come under the banner of the name S H 1 Business Directory.

There are no search engines in the directories because each directory is listed alphabetically and opens up like a phone book. There is nothing quite like it on the internet. We have so far launched 3 of the 5 business directories. Ashburton, Timaru and Oamaru are all now online with over 95 % of the current businesses listed.
Each business is listed free of charge but all are given the opportunity to add their other contact details in addition to their basic name, address and phone number.
Subscribers to the directory can choose to list their other important contact details such as Fax, Mobile, After Hours, Free Phone with links to Email and Website.
These are all important contact numbers and addresses that should be advertised online.
Clients can choose to have all these details listed in bold in the phone section of the directory and they can also be placed in the business category section along with their logo and call card

Exclusive
All the directories are exclusive in that we reserve the right to decline applications if we feel it creates too much competition for our regular online clients.
We also reserve the right to decline applications from corporate companies especially those who don’t invest any of their profits back into the local community.
We are a South Island owned company and we put all our profits back into the towns where we take it from and we expect our clients to do the same.

Statistics
We are proud of the fact that all our business directories are high up the rankings on Google.
Type in the names of any of the 3 listed towns of Ashburton, Timaru and Oamaru in combination with any of the following key words and you will find us up the near the top of the list.
These are the key words that have caused us to now be receiving over 1600 hits a day.
