Timaru Herald rejects another letter on Positive Thinking

The Timaru Herald has rejected yet another one of my letters on positive thinking and this one was about how to develop a positive mental attitude.
At first I thought it was the Editor who was rejecting my letters until I saw the Chief Reporters name on the rejection email.
The news media thrives on reporting bad news because they know that bad news makes people feel bad about themselves and life in general.
To report something educational that will make people feel better does not meet their low depressing standards.
Below is the type of letter that was not suitable for publication by the Timaru Herald please let me know what you think of it.

Positive Attitudes

When I walk down the street and greet someone with the question “how are you today?” they often answer with the words “not bad”

If they do I know straight away that that person has a problem on their mind because they spoke of the word bad.
It is impossible to ever feel good while you are thinking of the word bad.

Every one of us has problems to deal with on a daily basis in fact the only people I know that do not have any problems live in a cemetery

If you are fortunate enough not to be dead and you want to know how to handle the problems in your life then you must change your attitude from negative to positive.

How to feel better about yourself
Instead of worrying about your problems throughout the day and
night set aside some worry time where you wont have any distractions.
In your quiet worry time ask yourself this question, what is the worse that can happen and if it did would it really matter?

Then start thinking about a possible solution to your problem and the best time to do this is just before you go to sleep.

You subconscious mind never sleeps and has the answers to all your problems but it will only give you the right solutions if you feed it the right questions.
Do you realize that despite all your problems you can become the happiest person in the world and this is all you have to do to achieve it.

The next time someone says to you “how are you today?” you answer with the words either “great fantastic or terrific”.

After a few weeks of doing this you will start feeling better and solutions and new opportunities will start coming your way.
For example my favorite answer on the “how are you today”question is,
” I’m absolutely fantastic thanks,
in fact I cannot remember when I have had a better day”

Remember a positive attitude is contagious so if you
start speaking positive words others will copy you.
Yes folks you do have the power to not only to change your life but also the life of others.

The 4 things to remember in developing a positive mental attitude are.

1. If you need to complain then do it with a positive solution in
mind.

2. Set aside some worry time to think about your problems and
search for the answers.

3. Hand your problems over to a greater power outside of
yourself. Simply say, God please help me.

4. Get rid of the word bad out of your vocabulary and replace it
with the words great fantastic and terrific.

Word of warning, there is a side effect to all this.
When you change your attitude and become a happier person some of your family and friends may think you are going crazy.

Don’t worry what others think because I can asure you it is far better to be crazy and happy then it is to be normal and sad.
