The Editor
Timaru Herald
Dear Sir

Farewell
If you are wondering why my last weeks letter was not published by the Timaru Herald it was because I did not realize that the Herald had exclusive rights to all my letters. Unaware of the rules I had also published the letter in the business news section on the Timaru directory website.www.timarudirectory.co.nz Unfortunately I no longer have the time to write exclusive articles to publications that do not pay me which is why I have to say farewell to my Timaru Herald readers and move on to a wider audience available on the internet.

My Journey
When one door closes as it has for me in Timaru many times another one opens in another town. On the 1st of November I will be driving to Bluff to commence a journey to Cape Reinga along SH1 and back. The objective is to promote NZ Business and make Tourists aware of all the good things that SH1 towns and businesses have to offer. It will all be available for viewing on New Zealand’s website SH1 Business Directories www.sh1directory.co.nz   on my travels I will be writing stories about the businesses and the towns that I pass through and it will all be recorded daily on my new blog www.travellersguide.co.nz   Where possible I will take photos of the Mayors and the councilors in every town in effort to lift their profile and they will be published in my book when I return from my journey. As this is my last letter to the Timaru Herald I would like to thank the Herald staff for putting up with the many barks they have received from me over the years. Those close to me know that I’m all bark with no bite and a real big softy at heart.

Message to the Prime Minister of New Zealand
I now want to finish this letter with a story about a young man named Tim. On Friday night Tim came up and introduced himself to me and said that he wasa former student of the Timaru Boys High School. He reminded me that he was one of the boys in the class that I taught at the High School on a self development subject called “How To Think like a Winner.” He told me that my lessons on positive thinking had changed his life. He told me that every morning when he gets out of bed he still repeats, this is going to be a great day, I feel great, I feel fantastic, I feel terrific. Tim told me that he has just come back from Australia with a lot of money and is going to buy a house in Timaru and he thanked very much for changing his life and guiding him on the road to success. If John Key ever gets to read this letter then I have a message for him. John if you took all the money that you are currently spending on teaching school children how to speak the Maori language and applied that money and energy to teaching students self development subjects like ” How To Think Like A Winner ” then you would not only change one life you would change the lives of a whole nation of people. Thank you one and all for reading my letters over the last 30 years and may God bless you
