SH1 World Record Attempt
Its 4.15 am and I am starting Day 1 of another world record attempt. My car is sign-written with the words SH1 Business Directories www.sh1directory.co.nz I am like many people in the world I like to take on a challenge in life that has never been done before. A few years ago I rowed 100,000 metres in a 9 hour day on an indoor rowing machine. This made me the first man over 64 years of age in the world to do so. This effort does no involve a rowing machine it involves driving and walking. If I manage to travel the length of New Zealand and back calling on evey business then God willing I will not only of be the first man in the world to do it but I will have also collected records which will become valuable information for New Zealands history books.
Sh1 – State Highway 0ne
For those of you are not familiar with New Zealand abbreviations SH1 means State Highway one. This is New Zealands main highway that threads its way from Bluff at the bottom of the South Island to North Cape which it the fatherest point at the top of the North Island.
It’s hard to image that it’s just little more than 150 years ago since this road was built by our early pioneers as a track for their bullocks. Many people have since traveled the length of New Zealand and back using all kinds of modes of transport and some have even walked the 2025 ks. The AA maps show that if you obey all the speed limits in a motor vehcle and allow for 10 minute rest every hour it takes 24 hours of driving time to travel the length of New Zealand along SH1
Shortly I will be getting into my motor vehicle which is a Toyota Camry manufactered by the Japanese. It’s also hard to beleive that some 70 years ago this race of people were once at war with us and now we are living in harmony together and I am driving one of their motor cars.
The Reason for my Journey
One of the reasons I am traveling this journey is to promote more tourist trade along SH1. Most tourists who travel New Zealand roads travel that fast they they would not know what is on the side of the road. My trip is going to be different because I am going to stop at every business along the way and exchange business cards and take photographs. I’m also going to leave each business with the first 4 pages of book I wlll be writing about what you can see along SH1 in New Zealand. Each business will be given the opportunity to have their business promoted in the book and on this website www.sh1directory.co.nz

A Team Effort
Many people have achieved some great things in their life time and we all have the potential to achieve great things but we can do nothing on our own. I am starting out this journey on my own. When I step into my motorcar all I will have with me is my clothes, a still camera, a video camera and a laptop computer. The team that will help me become part of this SH1 world record achievement will be the business people that will support me financially as I promote their business and their town along State Highay One SH1. I have done no forward planning other than organise what I will need to take with me on my journey
