SH1 Business News

Timaru Tourist Promotions Ltd has been attempting to promote Tourism in the Timaru District online since the company was first formed in September 2005.  As a North Islander and founder of the South Island promotional company I have put in many hours of unpaid work and invested many thousands of my own personal dollars in an attempt to promote the district of Timaru which I adopted as my home town over 30 years ago.

I have grown to love Timaru but unfortunately there are many people in the district who don’t like me because of my highly motivated desire to bring about political change. In recent years I have moved away from the political world of networking because I believe it is not healthy for a community to be under the control of a small group of people who use public funds to benefit their own agendas.

Don’t worry honey I’ll save you, the fights not over until the ball and chain swings

Don’t worry honey I’ll save you, the fights not over until the ball and chain swings

In 2005 I conducted a public opinion poll on the merits of building a 5 star hotel as part of a Central South Island Conference Centre along side the Hydro Grand Hotel on the Bay Hill in Timaru and I got great  public support for the idea.  While  the enthusiasm for the idea was encouraging I made the vital  mistake of not asking any of my supporters for seed money therefore the idea never gathered momentum.

I have tried to rekindle the conference centre idea several times since then through the council but have failed to get one nod of approval from those in charge of the public cheque book.

The owners of the Hydro Grand Hotel have since announced that they have  connections in high  places in the council and plan to swing a ball and chain over the old historic icon on its 100th birthday in 2012.

Timaru District Family Opinion Poll

I’m glad I’m not 70

I’m glad I’m not 70

In this opinion poll I am leaving no stone unturned this time. Its a challenge to all the people of the Timaru District that if they want to see their community grow and provide employment for themselves and future generations then they have to stop grizzling and blaming local and central government and do something to bring about change for the better.

They have to speak up and put their money where their mouth is by putting their name on this questionnaire. If the majority answer yes to the first 2 questions then I will have done all I can do for Timaru and it will be time for me to move on to another town that is willing to accept change.

News media

I have called this notice yet another press release even  though I know it will never get reported because it is all about positive news and therefore does not meet the negative standards required by the news media. It is only when I finally get public support and some public money in the bank that they may sit up and take notice.  The Timaru Herald mail box is already over loaded with my press releases and this one will end up with all the others in the basket of crazy ideas from another political activist who goes around upsetting their friends.

If you have a town somewhere in the world who is looking for a 69 year old motivational coach who does not understand the meaning of the word QUIT then go to my blog and check out my CV   www.timarudirectory.co.nz/news Still not convinced then try this one   www.travellersguide.co.nz
