New Plans for the Timaru Century Pool

All the Timaru local body candidates were true to form on Tuesday morning.  They did not turn up to my invitation for a swim and a discussion about the future of Century Pool.
At 7.30 am there were 4 swimmers and 4 walkers in the pool including myself. Swimming is a recreational sport that is so popular we need to build a new pool on the other side of town.

Possible Development
Paul Jones is the manager of all the 5 pools in the Timaru District and he is also a swimming coach.
I discussed with Paul some possibilities about what to do with the pool and we also talked about the development of the whole of Anzac Square.
The square is currently a recreation park with the following sports, Pigeon Club, Cage Bird Club, Croquet Club, Boxing Club, Model Engineers Club, Swimming Club and ground for Soccer and Cricket. When the new Aquatic Centre is built on Maori Park the council intends to close the all year around Century Pool that has serviced the district for 110 years.

Save the Century Pool fund.
Yesterday 4th October I started a public appeal to save the Century Pool at the request of children and parents who live in the South End.
I started the fund by depositing $1000 of my own money plus my time involved in organising the fundraising. I started my campaign by door knocking on businesess and residents in the South End of Timaru and the response has been encouraging. Watch this space as the campaign progresses because once we get a number of members we will be looking  at developing other parts of the Southend of Timaru.
