Maori Park Aquatic Centre Land is Tapu

Very few people realise that the land on which the Maori Park Aquatic Centre is to be built on in Timaru is sacred ground. Under Maori spiritual beliefs the land has special mana giving it special spiritual powers which must be respected and not touched. The Timaru pakeha leaders have ignored Maori culture and gone ahead and built on the land without permission from the Maori people who would of been able to lift the tapu if they wanted it built on.

You will notice tha one of the things missing from Maori park is large numbers of people. Both the exsisiting  swimming pool and the tennis centre are somewhat white elephants beause of the lack of people and it is feared by some people that the new swimming complex will have the same spiritual fate.  The new aquatic Centre is being built on ground that is not only sacred but it does not have the blessing of the majority of people who are being asked to pay for it. Maori Park was handed over to local government to manage on behalf of the South Canterbury people but those in power have gone ahead and built on it without the permission of the majority of the people
which is why it will never succeed.

Breaking the Law
All local authorities must tender any contract. The Timaru District Council gave a contract to Paul Smith contracting to demolish the buildings and diving wells at Maori Park without it going to tender therefore breaking the law. Paul Smith Contracting made a donation to the council to build the complex as did many of the other contractors who are working on the site.

Buiding Permits
The Maori Park land has a height restriction 0f metres for any building. The hydroslide to be built in the swimming complex exceeds 10 metres and when I last spoke
to Ashley Harper the CEO of district services he did not have resourse consent to build the hydroslide. There are many questions to be asked about the Aquatic centre
which is being built for the wrong reasons.

Comments
I welcome comments from readers of my articles but I wont take public abuse from people like Randy Marsh and Cru Cartman if they want to abuse people they can chose someone elses website. I write these articles to create logical debate so go ahead and tell me what you think about the article not about the person who wrote it.

I have no idea dwhy Maori would even contemplate lifting tapu for a pakeha venture called Maori Park!

  2. Ronnie B says:

Then why don’t you stop the pakehas from building it if no maoris are going to swim in it?

  3. Ronnie B says:

The Maoris have done nothing to make their mark on the land that is named after them. Why dont you gather up some of your millions and suggest to the council that they turn the historic site into a Maori Park.

  4. Ronnie B says:

    Dear Ron
    Keep up the good fight.
It is good you are open to debtae but you really shouldnt have to put up with bad manners. We have all got involved in a mass debate at times, but the tone is lowered when it becomes personal.
There is no need for people to shoot off from the hip, not giving heed to your feelings about it.
    All the best -

Thanks for your encourgment Betty. When people make comments in attempt to offend me I display their remarks so others can see what an idiot they are. Most of the idiots use false names
