Timaru Tourist Promotions Limited is a company that was formed in 2005 to promote tourism in Timaru. We have tried several avenues to get funding to promote Timaru from the Timaru District Council, The Aoraki Development Trust and Central South Island Tourism all have refused any funding for our private enterprise.
Sport and Recreation
These are 2 things that will attract people to Timaru which is why our company has decided get involved in the politics of the swimming venues in Timaru. In recent weeks I have been canvasing door to door asking people to make a donation to save the Century Pool which the council has decided to close. All the money we receive gets spent on promoting the Century Pool and publishing a news letter to keep our Century Pool Supporters informed.
In our last news letter the Timaru Directory News I criticized the way in which the building of the new Aquatic Centre is being managed and I expressed my concern about the poor quality of the transport and pedestrian needs of the centres future customers. My comments which were meant to make people aware of the seriousness the situation have not been well received by a couple of staunch aquatic centre supporters so I have decided to do something about it

What is believed to be the first in the country we have decided to refund the donations of any person or persons that are not satisfied with our methods of promoting sport and recreation in the district.
We are not against improving the swimming facilities in Timaru but we are against how and why it is being done the way it is. There are many decisions being made behind closed doors that are not in the best interests of the majority of ratepayers and we will continue to expose those for the benefit of our supporters. Any person that is not happy with the way we spend their donations will get their money back in full and they will not ever be elegible to join any of our support groups again.
