A Pat on the Back
A former Mayor of Timaru Wynne Raymond is the only person in South Canterbury that has ever written to me and given me any praise for the work I have done over the last 35 years in my effort to promote the Timaru district. Below is his letter.
Dear Ron,
You were kind enough to refer me to your “Caroline Bay Pictorial Book”. I managed to find it on line and I very much liked what I saw. I am however no great computer operator. You were kind enough to print it all out and, for a very reasonable fee you put it all together in a proper binder format. Thank you for that. Not only are the many photos interesting but the written commentary adds hugely to the publication because all the snippets of information make the photos come alive. Congratulations on doing your utmost to support and promote the beautiful area in which we live.
Kind regards and good luck
Wynne Raymond
A Kick in the Guts
Some time ago I made an appointment to see the current Mayor of Timaru Janie Annear to discuss ways in which we could promote Timaru better. It was a kick in the guts for me when she cancelled the appointment without giving a reason.
I received another kick in the guts this week when a staff member of the Timaru District Council wrote a letter to the Mayor and her councillors telling them not to give my company Timaru Tourist Promotions Ltd any money regardless of how worthwhile my ideas might be
I was to launch the sale of my Photo News Travellers Books to the council on Tuesday but I’ve cancelled that appointment in light of the way I am being treated by the current Mayor, Timaru District Councillors and the council staff.
My Timaru promotional and educational books are now being withdrawn from the market until I can find suitable sponsors who value my work.
I ‘m also writing a new book with the title
“A Pat on the Back and a Kick in the Guts”
