I am fortunate that God has blessed me with the spiritual gift of Mercy. This means that I am the type of person that feels compassion for those that suffer through no fault of their own.
Earthquake Victims
When I heard that 66 children in Christchurch had lost a parent in the recent Chrstchurch Earthquakes I started searching for a way that I may be able to comfort those children. I am currently writing children’s books and the idea came to me that it would be kind gesture if we could send each child suffering from grief a book about Timaru animals.
Sponsorship
To pay for the books I hand delivered 1000 flyer’s asking people to make a donation towards the cost publishing the books. The response for direct mail is normally about 3% but for this appeal not one single person responded to my appeal. My idea of sending children’s books to grieving children from Timaru people has turned out to be another one of my stupid ideas.
Another Stupid Idea
I then learnt of a world wide mental handicap called dyslexia which prevents people from learning to read. 30% of the worlds population cannot read. This effects 1 in every 10 people which is 4500 people in the Timaru district. If I cant find anyone to give me a hand to send books to grieving Christchurch children them maybe I can use my pictorial books to help those who cant read. If I cant get sponsors then I will publish them myself give them away to the children. My children’s books contain no sketches every image is a photograph of an animal, a bird a person or surroundings that every child can relate to.
