How I Paid the Price

After my rifle accident my parents sent me away to my cousins to help me get over the tragedy of killing my brother. After I left school my mother got me a job with a livestock firm.
Having been bought up on a farm my father taught me how to shear sheep. I would shear sheep in the weekends to supplement my low income with the stock firm. One day I shore my first 100 sheep in a day and the farmer gave me a 5 pound note. At that time I was only earning 7 pound ten a week in my full time job. Against my mothers will I left the stock firm and I took up shearing sheep for a living. A lot of things happened in my life over the following 10 years but I remembered my mother’s words. Ronnie you will never do any good for yourself in life using your brawn you must wear a collar and tie and push a pen.

From a Black Singlet to a Collar and Tie

I gave up shearing and became involved in sales and it was during a sales conference in Hawaii that I first heard of positive thinking. I began reading books on the subject and applied the mental exercises that were explained in the books. Within 4 years of practicing What it is like to have a positive mental attitude I had gone from being a sheep shearer in a black singlet to a successful businessman wearing a suit and collar and tie. I had become a Branch Of New Zealands biggest finance company and was held in high regarded in the community.  My wife and I were both happliy married and had raised 4 wonderful children and purchased our own home.

I Wanted to Die

Life could not of been better for me until one day for no apparent reason I became deeply depressed s much so that I nearly took my own life. My brain had gone out of control and I experienced what it was like to have a mental breakdown. I was diagnosed with having a mental illness called bipolar disorder. Keen to know why I had been hit with such an illness I did some research and found that many who suffer from the symptoms of bipolar disorder do so after witnessing a major tragedy in their life. My tragedy was accidently witnessing the death my young brother and living with the fact that I was responsible for his death.

A call to God

During my mental breakdown someone suggested I ask God for help. I did this and he got me out of my bed of self pity and for the next 35 years I became a Christian relying on God for my strength. One day I walked away from God and when I did my life my life fell apart.
I’m now 71 years of age and my wife is 78 and we were both looking forward to comfortable retirement but that is not going to happen and here is why.

The One Sided Law has us by the throat

When I was a young man I lent my parents some money to help them with a deposit on their retirement house. When my mother died she left me the money in her will and I invested in a house for my wife and family knowing that we would also be retiring one day. We have written our wills and intended to leave the equity in our home to our children and grandchildren. I’m afraid that will not now happen because our families’ inheritance will now be going a former employee and her army of solicitors.
Thanks to New Zealand’s One Sided Law
